It’s time to face the music… What in the world did we see at Apple’s 2023 Worldwide Developer Conference? And, more so, what’s going on inside everyone’s head? Inside mine, “What am I looking at? What’s with the price?! Who cares, spatial computing has no timeline.” It’s here to stay, and Apple’s adaptations toward augmented reality are welcoming. They’re genuinely sourcing it as the next big thing. It’s “the real world” vs. “the make believe”. Look at the partnership with Disney. They know it’s about having Mickey Mouse in your house, and not the other way around. The live sports, immersive movies, and player one games will be endless on this thing. Unfortunately, I’ve heard way too many pornography jokes being made; I’d scratch global warming as the biggest problem we face. Regardless, it’s genius how the internal cameras capture your face, showing your eyes on the front of the display. Imagine how these preferences can change. An analogue clock or the Rainbow Cat right on your face. I believe the outward display will be translucent one day. By then, kindergartners will put it on to play. Remarkable, incredible, and built for the masses. As a 90s kid, this is as good as it gets. It’s expected early next year, and with the Presidential election, and all-electric Volkswagen minibus, 2024 is going to be a heck of a year. Fortunately, we don’t have to pay for it yet. Like Jay Z says, “If you can’t buy it twice, you can’t afford it.” I would love to start a business in this space. Two ideas, a Vision Pro travel case and an application for optimizing a space. Let’s say this doesn’t succeed. Apple will learn from it, pivot, and make a better machine. Remember the Newton? Its whole purpose was to get rid of the stylus. Why bet against Apple and what they see value in? Apple made a better product no matter what Zuckerberg says. This is a nostalgic battle, Steve vs. Bill, now Mark vs. Tim. Bill made more money, but Steve came back with vengeance. Now Mark was the first to market, but Tim will execute on it. It’s obvious this is Tim’s baby, his legacy, and last hurrah. Announcing to the world, “It’s the first Apple product you look through and not at.” Wrong, you’ve got two 4k screens, the size of postage stamps, on either side of your head. Similarly, no Apple executives were seen wearing it. My guess, they simply aren’t ready yet. Applications, advertisements, and attention-grabbing rhetoric. It seems Apple is watching, no matter where we’re looking next. Instead of virtual reality or augmented reality, we’ll get a mixture of both. Spatial computing and our ability to make sense of the space we’re in. Did Apple just monetize our sixth sense? There’s a reason why the people who make these things, limit their kids from using it. It’s exciting, but life-changing changes are ahead. |
